Blog EntryThe Love LetterJul 8, '08 11:30 AM
for everyone
Dear ***,

I tried to recover my failing courage, my saliva uncomfortably stuck in my throat. I closed my eyes and enveloped my fingers around my hot cup of coffee, bracing myself for the coldness I might be getting after I let you see my soul – bare, honest, scared and horribly wanting. I wasn’t brave enough to tell you that time, I’m not built to accept too much rejection. So I’m writing this letter because I’m too much of a coward to tell you that I love you, more than I expected. I surprised myself too, you know, I’m the selfish kind. I would probably feel like I won the lottery if you told me you loved me too. But who the heck wins the lottery anyway – one out of millions who are willing to bet a couple of bucks. I wish I had picked the right combination – the right person, place and time to love but sadly, I wouldn’t know even if the winning ticket stared me in the face. Don’t feel sorry for me – it is like feeling sorry for millions who bet their twenty bucks – the difference is that I used my heart and wished it was the ticket to win yours.

I love you.

Guns and Laser Lights at LazerXtreme

Shooting someone with a fake gun looks really fun - you can actually shoot people with gusto to relieve stress and find out they are still alive after continuously harassing them. I have been fascinated with guns and shooting for quite some time. I enrolled in a Rifle Pistol Marksmanship class when I was in college and got my license to buy a real gun *exes beware* from having completed the final exams.

for everyone
Okay, I was supposed to name this post "JAPANESE VIRGINS" to lure you to maybe watch the Eiga Sai 2008, a Japanese Film Festival organized by The Japan Foundation, Manila and the Embassy of Japan. I find Jap flicks funny, although they border on the violent or sexual. Who doesn't like violent and sexy films, huh?

eiga sai

ere are the list of films to be shown this year.

We Shall Overcome Someday (Pacchigi, 2005, directed by Kazuyuki Izutsu)
Canary (Kanaria , 2004, directed by Akihiko Shiota),
Hanging Garden (Kuchu teien, 2005, directed by Toshiaki Toyoda),
A Stranger of Mine (Unmei ja nai hito, 2004, directed by Kenji Uchida)
Juvenile Jungle (Kurutta Kajitsu, 1956, directed by Ko Nakahira).
Linda Linda Linda (Rinda Rinda Rinda, 2005, directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita)

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki o Kakeru Shōujo, 2001, directed by Mamoru Hosoda)

It will be shown at the Shangri-La Mall, UP Film Institute and the Cultural Center of the Philippines ALL FOR FREE. Let's thank the Embassy of Japan by watching more hentai
watching more of their stuff.

Eiga Sai Schedule here...

I'm not really a fan of Cubao. I only go there when I have friends from Quezon City who want to meet up at the Gateway mall or when I watch UAAP competitions at the Araneta Coliseum. I spent three months at Cubao when I was finishing my internship at the Resources for the Blind Inc. and it wasn't fun inhaling all the EDSA-generated filthy air.

John Torres explaining his meta-film at Mogwai
John Torres and cast explaining

But last week, I went to Cubao to see this indie "Years When I was a Child Outside" by John Torres, a 105-minute meta-film which was an entirely new experience for me as an indie film viewer. It was all about being an outsider, shown in different accounts like being an outsider in a relationship, in a family, or in a strange place. This John Torres guy is famous for making films out of footages that are not really staged. He just brings his camera along and experiments with a bunch of people or shoot in different places then comes up with a film using all these unadulterated scenes. Some parts of the movie were staged but they were kind of obvious - like that tribal dance they shot with all the costumes. I guess I never really noticed which ones were staged and which ones were not.

More about John Torres, Cubao X and Mogwai here.

Blog EntryMr. Fartface - my dream dateMay 7, '08 7:43 AM
for everyone
Okay, you might be wondering why a girl in her right mind would want to date a loser like a fartface. Actually, I just want to date that guy who's wearing Mr. Fartface, one of the characters from a collection of graphic misfits that pay tribute to character stereotypes. You can wear Mr. Fartface as a t-shirt and 20 other fabulous little rebels like Ms. Bitch, Mr. Tight Wad, Mr. Masturbate or Ms. Boobjob. Although a bit offensive, all these misfits from the "Little Losers" collection by Todd Goldman, are really clever and even salutes your inner bitch.

Chicks tees

Dudes tees

Anyway, because I can't think of anything else, I'll do what AJ did here. Here are my top five loser designs.

1. Ms. B.J.
2. Ms. Goth
3. Ms. Boobjob
4. Ms.PMS
5. Ms. Lush

A blogger event won't be complete without a freakin' photo booth! Cheers to FOTOLOCO for taking these mean photos.

Coy and Poyt. 3rd photo is made of WIN!

This is one of the best events I attended this year. The activities were fun and did not bore us to death. Also, we got gift certificates, bendable fridge keychains, stickers and discount cards from David and Goliath.

To top it all off, I crush this guy Kenneth from SPIT who was wearing a Mr. Fartface shirt hence the title of the blog post. Four males dragged me into joining a group game which required the players to kiss Mr. Fartface before they can answer the question. At least I got to kiss his elbow. LOL.

The David and Goliath press event was hosted by Gabe ("Okay ka ba tiyaaan?" guy) and other performers from the stand up comedy group SPIT. Catch them tuesdays at the Mag:net Cafe at the Global City, Fort Bonifacio.

One shirt costs 995PHP. The Little Losers collection is available at David and Goliath stores located at Bonifacio High Street, Powerplant Mall, TriNoma, Robinsons Place Manila Midtown, Greenbelt 5 and Rustan's Makati.

Just PR for PETA. Maybe you might know someone who's interested. Thanks.

The new school year is almost here!  As students squeeze-out the most of their remaining vacation time, teachers are already preparing for the year ahead. And for those looking for new ways to teach, the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) is offering 5-day courses on the use of creative means to do so.

“We recognize that with all the entertainment and gaming fares that students have grown accustomed to outside the classrooms and in their homes, teachers will need out-of-the-box means of getting students to understand their lessons and participate in class activities.  These courses will make learning fun not only for students but for teachers as well,” says a PETA artist-teacher.

Aside from offering regular theater and arts courses, PETA has also pioneered the Theater-in-Education (TIE) Courses to make classroom teaching more interesting and engaging by introducing creative means of teaching for regular subjects like Mathematics, English, Filipino, Science, etc.

For the past three years, educators come to the Theater Center from as far as Camarines Sur, Cebu and Davao to take these courses. Last year, a group of 6 teachers from Camarines Sur took the Theater-in-Education 1 (Creative Pedagogy) and now, the whole group plus two more of their colleagues are coming back to take Theater-in-Education 2 (Asian Theater).

“The course helps us immensely.  It’s simple and it’s quite easy to apply to the classroom and has allowed us to introduce innovations to our division. As teachers who are always looking for ways to improve our craft, we are definitely going back to PETA because they always offer something new for us to discover not only about arts and teaching but also about ourselves,” Victor Sorellano, a teacher from EILI National High School, Camarines Sur, shares.

Enrolment is still going on for the following classes:

Creative Pedagogy (Theater-in-Education 1) is designed for formal and non-formal educators.  Pep up your teaching competencies through creative methodologies, approaches and philosophies in the teaching of arts and academic subjects.  Enhance your teaching technique by using artistic disciplines as tools of learning

Asian Theater (Theater-in-Education 2) is for theater artists, cultural workers and arts/culture/history/humanities educators.  Immerse yourself in the discussions and analyses of the rich culture of Asian countries, their theater history, art forms and world views. Discover their influences to artists, dramatists and theater pedagogues all over the world. Be more conscious of their nature and qualities that have influenced your own artistic expression.

As a final output for these courses, teachers will design and showcase creative lesson plans which can immediately be put to practice in the coming school year.

PETA also offers Theater for Development for community and cultural workers.  This course is designed to help community workers in creating different forms of performances for the propagation of their own issues and programs through the PETA Integrated Theater Arts (ITA) approach with special sessions on community situational analysis.

All classes will be held from May 12 to 16, 2008, Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm.  Venue is at the PETA THEATER CENTER, No. 5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City (behind the Quezon City Sports Club).  For more details, contact the PETA Marketing & Public Relations Office c/o Ms. Julie Bautista at 7256244, 4100821 or mobile number 0928-5078368.

Blog EntryHow to Lose WeightApr 29, '08 5:20 PM
for everyone
As opposed to the SLR (single reflex camera), the TLR (twin reflex camera) has two lenses - one that takes the photo and another one for viewing at one's waist level. So you don't put the whole camera against your face just to look at what you're shooting at. It is just like a point and shoot digital camera using film (Tama ba, Juned?). Kinda cool, huh?

The whole point of me explaining to you how the heck a TLR camera works is showing you this piece of work by Juned Sonido using a TLR.

Photobucket

Gawd, I practically look ANOREXIC in this photo. Effin' fantastic! No editing on my part. I guess Juned just shot it, had the film processed and scanned and vwahla!

See, I actually lost weight without exercising or dieting.

Blog EntryMy cat just diedFeb 5, '08 9:16 AM
for everyone
My sister called me at around 3 PM today telling me to attend a vet appointment later that evening. I was getting my hair done for free at Regine's salon that time, but I was ready to go home as soon as the whole makeover was done. I got a cab from Landmark at about 7PM and got home around 20 minutes later. What I saw made me panic beyond belief. My cat, Naruto, wasn't moving, he can't even hold his head up. He looked at me with wet beady eyes. He looked like he was in a lot of pain. That was the last time I would ever see my cat look at me.PhotobucketI think he died in the car, with all the beeping and honking coming from all directions. It's his first time to go out on the road - he was always too scared to go down. He was born and raised on the top floor of a five-storey house. Maybe he got scared. Maybe it was all too much for him. Maybe we did not bring him to the clinic on time. We were too late.PhotobucketThe last time I cried like this was when my best bud from high school went away to the Netherlands.I'm sorry, Naruto. You deserved to live longer. I'm so sorry I was too bitchy to give you feeds in the middle of the night. I'm sorry I did not call the vet as soon as I heard you whine of pain. I'm sorry for being away when you needed help the most. I'm sorry I'm not a better owner. Please forgive me.PhotobucketNaruto will be buried at a pet cemetery somewhere in Antipolo tomorrow morning. I don't know if I can stand to see his lifeless body being rolled into a dirt hole.

Blog EntryUAAP Cheerdance Laitan PortionSep 17, '07 12:41 PM
for everyone

I really really need to do this. I need to get it out of my system. HAHAHA! If you want to defend your school, DON'T - because I'm a beyootch and this is my blog. Thankies!

DLSU - As I have mentioned in my "twit", everyone knows DLSU students can't spell, but do they have to remind us? Geez. "AL SALLE" with an inverted A. What did the DLSU Pep Squad eat for them to have such an extreme case of sudden dyslexia? And what's with the low energy thing eh? You partey-ed hard the night before?

UP - What's with the "UP ROCKS" thinggamajig at the end? Are you guys going mainstream?

NU - I usually have a hard time sleeping but this routine is a major sleeping pill. The NU Pep Squad looked like little bumblebees dancing to Bamboo. *nosebleeds*

ADU - Do these people have a deathwish? They performed an unbelievably dangerous throw in the middle of the routine. They thought "Hey, maybe were better off dead than doing the whole thing?".

FEU - It's okay to be creative - as long as you don't look stupid. Enough said. GO FEU PENGUINS!

UST - I'm sorry, but their costumes sucked bigtime. They looked like bumblebee dicks. UST thought "Maybe this year, we'll add more flair and put on some wigs." Sure, scare the hell out of people by looking like chick robbers.

UE - Maybe ERAP owns half of this university. The whole squad were sporting wrist bands and they danced to tacky, tacky music. Anyway, their routine looked like a pirated DVD - it's a freakin' ripoff. Just dribble balls, don't dance.

Everyone knows I'm not the type who you can tell your problems to and expect me to sympathize. You can confide in me but don't expect me to know how you feel and tell you my sad stories in return. The best I can do is crack jokes about how lame you are or we can go out and eat as mucn as we can.

BUT.. There's always a big but - I have been listening to this person's inner struggle for about a few months now. S/He's been seeking eternal rest since I don't know when. I was always listening patiently, always making him/her feel that it's not the end of the world, that death isn't the only way to find peace.

PERO DUDE, MAN, PARE, CHONG.. May hangganan rin ang powers ko.

You know symbiotic relationships? There's a thin line between parasitism and commensalism. That's where we stand. I feel it's not healthy for both of us. Of course I care for him/her a big deal but there are times when I just can't stand him/her. I'm a happy person, STOP MAKING ME SAD.

What do you think?

Blog EntryVirgin Labfest 3Jun 15, '07 5:55 AM
for everyone

Now on its 3rd year, the Virgin Labfest runs June 28-July 8 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This festival of new plays (untried, untested, unpublished and unstaged) by both emerging and well-known playwrights, directors and actors, is now enthusiastically looked forward to by artists and audiences alike.

This year’s festival offers a repertoire of 15 short plays in five trilogies as the main exhibition list. One of the trilogies features contributions of playwrights from Thailand, Singapore and Japan. Another independently produced trilogy of plays has been added to the festival--totalling the entire festival to a treat of 18 short plays. Full-length plays will also be featured in a series of dramatic readings at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino.

INTERNATIONAL NIGHT is a compilation of plays submitted by foreign playwrights: "He-Me-She-It" (by Narumol Thammapruksa, directed by Jaime del Mundo), "Lizard" (Haresh Sharma, directed by Nicolas Pichay), "Three Sisters (a Noh play by Yoji Sakate, directed by Jose Estrella). Tanghalang Huseng Batute, June 28 (3pm/8pm), July 7 (8pm) and July 8 (3pm).

MADADRAMANG PAMILYA--Household drama but not telenovela fare: "Teroristang Labandera" (Debbie Ann Tan, directed by Yoshi Toshihisa), "Bagahe" (Dennis Teodosio, directed by Rito Asilo), "Looking for Darna" (Lani Montreal, directed by Khryss Adalia). Tanghalang Huseng Batute, June 29 (3pm/8pm), July 5 (3pm) and July 8 (8pm).

XX AND X is the most unsettling and disturbing compilation of the season. We enjoin you to widen your understanding, come in with an open mind and expect the unexpected: "Séance" (uggie Arcenas, directed by EricK Castro), "Kasaysayan" (Allan Lopez, directed by Victor Villareal), "My Padir is an OCW" (George Vail Kabristante). Tanghalang Huseng Batute, June 30 (3pm/8pm), July 5 (8pm) and July 6(3pm).

ANG PAGDADALAGA AT IBA PANG REBELASYON provides another take on forbidden loves, sexual desire and the fruits it reaps, both good and evil: "Kuyom" (Argel Tuason, directed by John Abul), "Three Unsent Letters" (Arlo De Guzman, directed by Nor Domingo), "Ellas Inosentes" (Layeta Bucoy, directed by Tuxqs Rutaquio). Tanghalang Huseng Batute, July 1 (3pm/8pm), July 6 (8pm) and July 7 (3pm).

CHILDREN’S PLAYS: "Bertdey ni Guido" (Rene Villanueva’s Bertdey ni Guido, performed by the Dulaang Sipat Lawin Ensemble and directed by George de Jesus III), "Mga Obra ni Maestra" (Niel De Mesa), "Kung Pwede Sanang Ipagpalit ang Tatay" (James Cansanay, directed by Catherine Racsag). Bulwagang Amado Hernandez, June 29 (3pm), June 30 (10pm/3pm) and July 1 (3pm).

IDENTITY AND POLITICS: "May Bumubulong" (Job Pagsibigan, directed by Christian Bautista), "Pobreng Alindahaw" (Dennis Teodosio, directed by Delfin Ilao), "Sa Pagdating ng Barbaro" (Rogelio Braga, directed by Nick Olanka). Bulwagang Amado Hernandez, July 6 (8pm), July 7 (3pm/8pm) and July 8 (3pm).

PUBLIC READINGS of full-length plays will be at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (7pm): Glen Mas’ "Games People Play" (June 29), Rene Villanueva’s "Baby B." (June 30), Tim Dacanay’s "Teatro Porvenir" (July 6) and "Huling Salubong" by Malou Jacob (July 7).

PLATFORM EVENTS at the Bulwagang Carlos Francisco at 5:45pm June 28-July 1 and July 5-8.

The Virgin Labfest is a joint venture of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Tanghalang Pilipino and the Writer’s Bloc, Inc. with the generous support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Japan Foundation Manila.

The festival has witnessed the works of stage directors Tuxqs Rutaquio,Denisa Reyes, Herbert Go, Phil Noble, Victor Villareal and Roobak Valle, among others. Professional actors like Neil Ryan Sese, Irma Adlawan-Marasigan, Nonie Buencamino, Mailes Kanapi, Tess Jamias and Marj Lorico have supported the festival with their theatrical talent and dedication. Even new actors have been discovered with the performances of the Dulaang Sipat Lawin Ensemble, the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors' Company, actors from PETA, Gantimpala Foundation, as well as freelance professionals and even student theater artists.

The past two years has seen these stage actors and directors from various theater companies coming together to explore new expressions in the field of drama. Rehearsing in small venues, sometimes even in open air spaces, revising the pieces along the way, the festival has turned out to become an exciting celebration of Philippine theater. Dynamic, creative, experimental, at times edgy, always provocative, the Virgin Labfest, on its 3rd year, has proven that Philippine theater remains to be one of the most vibrant of the arts despite the sorry lack of funding support. It has remained to be a wellspring of new ideas, expressions and discourses.

Tickets to the Virgin Labfest are at P200 (for plays to be shown at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute and Bulwagang Amado Hernandez) and “Pay What You Can”(for play readings at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino). Call Tanghalang Pilipino 8323661 or CCP Box Office 8323704.

Blog EntryThe Quest for the White Dress and othersApr 24, '07 5:39 AM
for everyone

Last friday and saturday, I had to scour at least three malls for a white dress to wear at the University Graduation. There were moments when I sooo feel that it was THE dress then it turns out to be either tight or weird. I found one at Bayo Megamall, praying that nobody graduating would buy the same dress. If I saw a person wearing the same dress, I just hope I look twice as good. Bwahahahaha!

I think I saw this at Glorietta, I just can't remember which botique. The saleslady sure has a lot of angst.

Recent photo of my cat, Naruto, napping after being given a bath. What a difficult cat. Hahahahaha! He is a Pringles junkie now, so I'm gonna buy him sour cream. He also eats leaves. I have a video of it somewhere - just bizaare.

Quirky, quirky pets.

My first time to go snorkeling two days ago at Batangas. Of course, I don't have my glasses on so I didn't see most of what they were "sighing" at. Haha. Did I tell you that me and nature don't go together? I got so nervous when I was in the water I started becoming paranoid and my lifejacket's not working. It was okay, except my eyes hurt and I had a few abrasions. Grr. Photos later.
